LANAP® FAQs

How Do Dental Lasers Work?

Dental lasers are used for different procedures, including gum disease treatment. During a gum surgery technique, laser light is aimed at specific areas in the mouth to cut or remove tissue. Lasers are also used to bond fillings to teeth and boost the effectiveness of tooth whitening agents.

Why Is the Periolase® MVP-7™ Laser Considered Best?

For the best laser gum surgery technique in Portland, Dr. Henshaw only uses the FDA-cleared PerioLase® MVP-7™ because it’s backed by research and human histological studies to be the best on the market for gum disease treatment. It gently and safely knows how to identify diseased tissue from healthy tissue for a more comfortable and effective gum disease treatment. The PerioLase® also encourages bone to grow around existing teeth. It’s simply the best laser available.

Is Laser Gum Disease Treatment Painful?

No. In fact, a laser gum surgery technique with Dr. Henshaw is minimally invasive and more comfortable than traditional gum disease treatment because there’s no scalpel cutting involved. Laser only targets bacteria, never the nearby healthy tissue. No stitches or prescription painkillers required!

Is Laser Gum Disease Treatment Expensive?

A laser gum surgery technique for gum disease costs little more than what traditional methods cost. But it’s much more comfortable and the results are so far-reaching and dependable that most patients feel it’s an investment worth making.

Is Laser Gum Disease Treatment Really Safe?

Yes. The laser gum surgery technique and PerioLase® MVP-7™ dental laser that Dr. Henshaw uses is FDA-cleared and supported by medical research and human histological studies to be very safe when performed according to prescribed practices. Dr. Henshaw is fully trained in laser dentistry. Patients are required to wear protective eyewear during a laser gum surgery technique—for the same reasons we wear sunglasses for protection.

How Can I Be Sure That My Dental Provider Is Adequately Trained and Qualified to Do Laser Gum Disease Treatments?

Ask. A reputable periodontist will present you with his/her current credentials and certifications from a leading dental school and/or professional association, such as the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD). Also ask if they've had any training from the laser manufacturer.

How Do I Know If I Am a Good Candidate for a Laser Gum Surgery Technique?

Most patients are suitable for a laser gum surgery technique. The best way to find out is to visit Dr. Henshaw for a gum disease treatment consultation.
